Sweet potato fries are basically life. If I was stuck on a deserted island I could live off these things! Maybe you’re not as obsessed as I am but you could use a good sweet potato fry recipe. Keep reading as I share my go to recipe today.
Health Benefits of Sweet Potatoes (and sweet potato fries)
Orange foods promote healthy eyesight: Just like they tell you about carrots, sweet potatoes have higher levels of vitamin A which promotes good vision!
Higher in fiber than white potatoes: Sweet potatoes have a slightly high fiber content than white potatoes. Fiber is essential for moving waste through the body. Now this doesn’t mean white potatoes are bad. That’s a topic for another section!
Supports immunity: All that vitamin A is also beneficial to cellular growth, communication and differentiation.
Sweet potatoes aren’t just for Thanksgiving
They are absolutely delicious slathered in brown sugar, butter, and a crumbly topping (or marshmallows). But that’s definitely not the only way to enjoy them.
Our family enjoys them every week in some variety. Including oven baked fries, cubed into a breakfast hash, whole with butter and cinnamon, and myriad of other ways I will eventually blog about.
Two of my boys absolutely devour them and theres usually no leftovers to savor the next day. Sigh.
Tools for making sweet potato fries
Sturdy cutting board
Bowl or gallon zip lock bag for mixing
How to make them
First you’ll need to wash and peel your potatoes
Cut the tips off each side and cut in half. Then cut each half lengthwise for four even-ish slices.
Continue by cutting each slice into fry shapes.
Toss with olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika and any other spices of your choosing. You can use a bowl for this or a ziplock bag for one less dish to clean!
Place on parchment lined baking sheet leaving room for each fry. You may need to use two baking sheets to ensure you don’t end up with soggy fries.
Bake at 450 to 500 degrees fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes flipping at the halfway point.
What to serve with
Side dish- You can use these as a side to hamburgers, grilled chicken, or paired with a maple salmon dish!
Main Attraction- In sweet potato chili fries or sweet potato tacos as they pair well with black beans.
Salads- A fresh green salad with chicken, feta, pecans and dried cranberries.
